Minister for development of media sector

DANG: Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel today said the present government was intent on developing the journalism sector. Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Dang Chapter, Pokharel said a separate budget had been allocated for the establishment of a welfare fund for the economic and physical security of the journalists.

Informing that the budget for the people welfare advertisement had been doubled this time, he said, “The government is committed to providing top facilities to journalists and develop the sector as much as possible.” Pokharel said they would gradually decentralise government offices concerned with media.

He said the political parties had no other option but to forge consensus amongst themselves to take the peace process to a logical conclusion and to draft the new constitution on time.

He added that the special security plan of the government would soon end lawlessness in the country. He also expressed commitment to provide compensation to the kin of the deceased who had lost their lives during the Maoist insurgency.
