Ministry’s bid to make disaster aid transparent

Kathmandu, July 19:

The Ministry of Home Affairs is holding a meeting with donor agencies in a bid to bring them into a network over their expenditures on relief programmes meant for victims of natural disasters.

"We are holding a special meeting on Monday with donors to acquire information about the programmes they run for the victims of floods and other natural disasters," said Thir Bahadur GC, the ministry’s joint-secretary and chief of the disaster management committee.

The ministry would seek details of the programmes being conducted by donors in districts. It would also establish a network to deal with the aid the donor agencies have been providing to disaster victims, he added.

"We will try to bring uniformity among relief packages being developed by various donors in the field of disaster management," he said.We would also discuss the ways to effectively run relief programmes, GC added.
