BIRGUNJ, JANUARY 30

Police have arrested one person involved in the murder of 10-year-old Rijawana Mahato in Birgunj, Parsa, about three weeks ago.

Motilal Prasad Kurmi, 40, of Birgunj Metropolitan City has been arrested in connection with the murder.

Though police had arrested Kurmi days ago, they provided information about his arrest only today. Police, citing their investigation, have said Kurmi committed the crime in a bid to hide his illicit affair.

The body of Rijawana, daughter of Saroj Mahato Kushwaha, a permanent resident of Birgunj Metropolitan City, temporarily residing in Ward 15, Bhishwa, was found near an under-construction building of the local Kanchanjungha school on Poush 24 (January 8).

Police found Kurmi's involvement in the murder in the course of an investigation they had started following an FIR filed by the minor girl's family.

According to police, Rijawana was struck on her head with a boulder and killed. Parsa Police Spokesperson DSP Om Prakash Khanal said investigation into the case was under way.
