Minor girl raped in Birgunj, suspect on the run

BIRGUNG: Police today revealed that a nine-year-old girl was raped at Ranighat in Birgunj Metropolis-11 of Parsa district on Wednesday.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Parsa District Police Office Spokesperson Ananda Ram Sharma, the 25-year-old suspect Rajan Sah Turuha lured the girl promising to buy her sweets and took the unsuspecting girl to his room.

The victim's mother was out, buying groceries, and the perpetrator took advantage of the situation, luring the girl to his rented room in the same building where she lived.

Meanwhile, the victim is undergoing treatment at the Narayani Hospital. Police said the suspect is on the run and a manhunt has been launched.

So far, 25 rape cases and two attempted-attempted-rape cases have been filed at the DPO in the last eight months of the fiscal year 2018/19.

A number of rape cases in the country have been rising alarmingly of late amid growing calls for enforcing strictest punishment to rapists.
