RAJBIRAJ, SEPTEMBER 19

With the persons involved in the murder of her husband and the rape of her minor daughter being released one after another, a woman in Saptari's Shambhunath Municipality has appealed for security, citing the insecurity triggered by these releases.

Forty-year-old Ghurani Devi Ram of Shambhunath Municipality expressed her concern by holding a press conference in the district headquarters Rajbiraj.

Her 14-year-old daughter was raped by some youths in her neighbourhood four years ago. Two years after the incident, her husband Tribhuwan Ram was murdered. It is said he was murdered for refusing to settle the case locally.

A few days after the murder, Tribhuwan's body was found from near his village. Five people were arrested.

While four were released on bail a few days ago, Babi Chaudhary of the same ward of the local level is still in judicial custody. The other four persons, namely Prabhu Sah, Shambhu Sah, Pankaj Chaudhary and Surendra Pal are in judicial custody in Rajbiraj prison in connection with the murder of the girl's father.

According to Ghurani Devi, she is receiving threats from the kin of those waiting for trial and from those who have been released on bail. "I'm pressured to settle the case in the village level itself and withdraw the case, that's why I've come here seeking justice," she told journalists.

At the press conference, the victim's neighbour Jaya Prasad Ram said the local administration had been informed about the pressure and threats.
