Minor still missing three years on

Rautahat, May 31

Three-and-half years have passed since 12-year-old Sunil Baitha of Samanpur, Rautahat disappeared, but his whereabouts is still a mystery.

Sunil was abducted from Garuda Bazaar in Rautahat in the first week of October 2013. The abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs 10 million. Despite concerted efforts of his family members and the police, Sunil is still missing.

The District Police Office at Rautahat had arrested Dinesh Singh of Bhelawa, Ghodasahan, Manoj Baitha of Sarmujawa, Amaldev Thakur of Bhagya Narayan Choudhary of Rautahat on the charge of their involvement.

All the accused are currently serving time at the district prison.

Security forces have intensified investigation after Dinesh, one of the alleged, gave an undisclosed statement to the police.

“It has been more than three years, but we don’t even know if my son is alive or dead. How long must we suffer?” asked Sunil’s father Achchhe Lal Baitha.

The family has spent about Rs 2 million in search of the boy.

Baitha claimed that if their family had been well-off, the case would probably have already been closed.

Sunil’s mother Nirmala Devi complained that the government was not taking the incident seriously. “I still have hope, and I am still waiting for my son to return,” she said.
