DHANGADI: A local businessman was found dead on Wednesday, five days after he was reported missing, a police official said.

The body of Shyam Bhatta, owner of Prabhat Photocopy Centre in Mahendranagar, was recovered from the banks of Mahakali River in Tanakpur, India, according to Kanchanpur Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Bahadur Bista.

Indian Police officials discovered the body on Tuesday and informed their Nepali counterparts who travelled along with Bhatta’s family to India to identify his body.

Bhatta’s kin had filed a police report after he went to the local market and did not return home on March 23, 2019.

It has not been ascertained yet whether he was murdered.

According to Kanchanpur Police, Bhatta’s body has been kept at a public hospital in Tanakpur.
