MJF calls off Siraha strike

Siraha, October 17:

The ongoing row over the alleged murder of Chandra Kumar Yadav (30) in police custody ended today after the local administration assured an all-party meeting to fulfil the nine-point demand put forth by Yadav’s family.

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum withdrew all protest programmes in the district after chief district officer Geha Raj Bhandari agreed in writing to fulfil the demands.

The local administration agreed to prepare a post-mortem report, arrange employment for Yadav’s wife, provide free education up to higher secondary level to Yadav’s children and launch investigation on SP Ramesh Kharel. The local administration also provided Rs 15,000 as funeral expenses to the bereaved family.

According to family members, Yadav, who was held by the police on Tuesday in connection with a murder case, died the same day due to torture in custody. Siraha’s police chief Ramesh Kharel had said Yadav suddenly fell ill on Tuesday night and died on the way to Janakpur Zonal Hospital.
