MJF rift bridged, for now

Kathmandu, January 13:

The central committee of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum today decided to withdraw all the proposals registered against party leaders and ministers in the party.

Earlier, some 40 MJF CA members had registered proposals demanding withdrawal of party ministers from the government and replacement of party leader and chief whip in the

parliament.

“We have decided to postpone all the controversial issues for the time being and focus on holding the upcoming general convention,” said CC member Shyamanand Suman.

Party co-chairperson Jay Prakash Prasad Gupta said the meeting was held in a cordial environment and he was hopeful that the political document to be prepared for the general convention would incorporate the issues he had raised earlier.

Gupta had presented a separate political document in the previous CC meet, which was held in Birgunj a few weeks ago.

Opposing the party chairperson’s political document Gupta had raised the issue of collective and democratic leadership contrary to Yadav’s ‘leftist style’ leadership. A rift within the party forced the postponement of general convention of the party scheduled in December.

Suman said the CC members also took stock of the progress made by sub-committees formed recently to resolve the differences within the party particularly in district chapters.

The MJF will decide whether or not to walk out of the government after the general convention, said a party source. The general convention will begin next week.
