MJF to announce stir programme today

JANAKPURDHAM: Co-chairman of the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta today accused the main political parties of depriving the Madhesi people of their rights.

He declared to launch a decisive movement to ensure the rights of the Madhesi people tomorrow.

Addressing a press meet organised by the Madhesi Journalists' Society Janakpur, Gupta accused the major political parties of trampling on the legitimate rights of the Madhes and the people living there.

He said they would launch a joint movement in collaboration with the Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee against the government's apathy and indifference towards the issues of Madhes.

Stressing the need to implement the eight-point pact reached with them in the past, he demanded that the entire Madhes as a single province should be ensured in the new constitution.

Accusing the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the UCPN-Maoist of rejecting the issues and the agenda of the people in the region, he said, "The republican order and federalism are the genuine outcomes of the Madhes movement".

He also accused that the Maoist, the NC and the CPN-UML had been hatching conspiracies to prevent Madhes from being a powerful province by backing the proposal of three provinces for the Madhes as opposed to their one Madhes one pradesh proposal in the Constituent Assembly.

Calling it the misfortune for the Madhes-based parties to remain divided, he commented that their role and stance over the election system, linguistic rights and identity had been feeble and limited.

He condemned the silence and apathy of other Madhes-based parties like MJF-Democratic, Nepal Sadbhavana Party and the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party towards the Madhes issues.
