Modality on building Nijgadh airport to be finalised soon

Kathmandu, August 13

Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Rabindra Adhikari today said the government would soon finalise the construction modality of Nijgadh airport, the second international airport of Nepal, to be constructed in Bara.

Speaking in the Parliament, Minister Adhikari said the government was discussing the modality of the construction. He said the government had already received the environmental impact assessment report from experts.

He claimed his ministry was putting in all efforts to reconstruct heritage sites, including Rani Pokhari and Dharahara, which were destroy by the earthquakes in 2015, at earliest.

Answering lawmakers’ questions, he further said the ministry had improved the services of the national flag carrier Nepal Airlines. “We want more want to buy more aircraft to bring in more tourists,” he added.

Thirty lawmakers, including lawmakers from the ruling Nepal Communist Party and opposition parties raised questions on the services provided by Nepal Airlines Corporation, airport construction work in different parts of country and new air routes, in the Parliament.
