Modernise farming: Minister Gajurel

Lamjung, June 17

Agriculture Minister and CPN-Maoist Centre leader Haribol Gajurel said at a press conference in Besisahar, Lamjung on Friday that the development of the agricultural sector is impossible without its modernisation.

The minister spoke of the need to implement modern agricultural ideas practiced in other parts of the world in the country as well.

“If we want to develop the agriculture sector, we have to mechanise it,” Gajurel argued, informing about the government’s plan to promote the sector by relaxing the existing process of getting loans and grants.

On a different note, the minister also emphasized on the need of a consensus government.

“A national consensus government is a must for statute implementation. Until such a government is in place, there is always a risk of the parties outside the government disowning the statute even after several amendments,” Gajurel said.

Further, ruling out the chances of the statute drafted through the legitimate body of Constituent Assembly being annulled, he urged the agitating parties to seek a solution to the disputes through dialogue.

Also, pointing out the need to hold elections of local bodies as soon as possible, Gajurel repeated his call for the formation of a consensus government, saying such a government with all parties on board would make holding the polls easier.

The minister also inaugurated a food fair that began for the first time in the district, in Besisahar, today.

The fair was organised by Regional Food Technology and Quality Control Office Bhairahawa in coordination with Lamjung Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
