A month with no electricity in Launiya

Rajbiraj, June 15

The villagers of Launiya VDC, Saptari, have been compelled to live in the dark for a month as the transformer that was damaged by lightning a month ago has yet to be repaired.

“Though Nepal Electricity Authority Distribution Centre Rajbiraj cleared the damaged transformer three weeks ago, the centre has not replaced it with a new one yet. Hence, we have no option but to live in the dark,” said Binod Kumar Mandal of Launiya ward No 1.

The locals have been unable to charge their mobile phones for want of power supply. Another local, Rajesh Kumar Sharma, said the villagers wait in long queues at Tilathi-based Public Higher Secondary School to charge their cell phones torches, emergency lights and bats used to kill mosquitoes,” said Sharma.

“We have been facing a hard time studying due to the shortage of electricity in the village,” said Rakhi Kumari Mandal, a tenth grader of Launiya-3.

Meanwhile, Ram Udgar Sah, chief at the electricity distribution centre, said they were repairing the transformer and would install it soon.
