Man rapes teenager whom he aspired to marry in Panchthar
PHIDIM: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 37-year-old man who visited her village with an aspiration to marry her here in Panchthar district of eastern Nepal.
The suspect has been identified as Hemaraj Adhikari of Sijuwa, Morang district. The incident took place on Saturday.
It has been learned that 65-year-old Nara Bahadur Yonghang, a local resident, had invited Adhikari, who is said to be his sons' friend, with an assurance to help him find a girl to marry.
Yonghang called the girl to meet his guest on the pretext of matchmaking. In a strange arrangement of date, he reportedly locked the two in a room in his house.
Taking advantage of the situation, Adhikari raped the teenager, according to a statement recorded by the victim to police.
Police arrested both Adhikari and Yonghang. Two others, identified as Bikram and Bijaya, who helped arrange the date and were allegedly involved in locking the girl in the room along with the perpetrator, however, are at large.
Police said they are looking for the absconding duo.
