More than 100 houses gutted in Kapilvastu

Kapilvastu, February 21:

Over 100 houses were gutted by a fire which broke out in Mahadaiya of Pathargaiya VDC of the district today.

According to District Police Office, Kapilvastu, the fire started from the house of Ram Subak at around 3 pm and quickly spread over the village due to gusty wind.

A team of Chief District Officer Nagendra Jha, SP Bikram Singh Thapa, including others, were still trying to douse the fire till late in the evening.

The detail of the damage caused by the fire is yet to be known. People displaced from a communal clash in Kapilvastu on September 16, 2006, have been residing in the area.

Meanwhile, seven houses of Rajpur VDC and five houses of Ganeshpur VDC were completely destroyed in a fire.

The fire damaged property worth Rs 8 lakhs before the police and locals finally brought it under control. There were no casualties or loss of domestic animals, the police said.
