KATHMANDU, MAY 27

The Sherpa Support Foundation, USA has distributed relief materiel to guides involved in tourism sector of the country on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti in Kharibot of Kapan in Kathmandu.

The foundation in association with Mountain Sherpa Foundation distributed relief packages to 450 Sherpa trekking guides, porters and climbing guides.

According to the Pasang Sherpa Pinasa, social activist and chair of the Mountain Sherpa Foundation, with the reintroduction of prohibitory order around the country with the start of the second wave of coronavirus, Sherpa guides and porters have been left in the lurch.

In lack of any support to the workers in tourism sector, the Sherpa Support Foundation sponsored the relief that will last a family for at least a month, helping the people of the community affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Sherpa added.

Each package includes a sack of rice, five kg pulses, five kg flour, two litres of cooking oil and one kg of salt.

The relief materials were distributed while following physical distancing.
