Municipality agrees to construct bridge

Bhojpur, February 16

Shadananda Municipality has taken the responsibility of constructing an under-construction Lamsuwa Bridge over the Arun River after bridge construction work was left in limbo for a long time in Bhojpur.

A pressure group formed by locals and the municipality signed an agreement in this regard on Tuesday. The pressure group had announced phase-wise protests demanding that initiatives to construct the bridge be taken soon.

Locals said nine years had passed, but construction of the bridge was yet to complete. The pressure group had scheduled to picket the mayor’s office on Monday. The talks between the pressure group and the representatives from the municipality failed on Monday. The group that reached deputy mayor’s office on Wednesday as a part of the protest programme signed a deal after the municipality expressed readiness to complete construction of the bridge.

The pressure group’s coordinator Krishna Prasad Poudel said the municipality agreed to manage budget for construction. The municipality has agreed to complete the bridge within two years.

The pressure group has postponed the protest programme for a month. Coordinator of the group Dil Kumar Rai said that they would stage stern protests if the construction work did not start soon.
