Police have arrested a person for killing a 27-year old American citizen Dohlia Yehai from Pokhara on Thursday.

The murderer has been identified as Narayan Prasad Poudel, 30, of Dhital VDC, Kaski. Poudel had requested Dohlia, through internet, to come to Nepal to help the quake victims.

He had killed the foreigner after taking Dohlia to his room on August 7 at night.

DSP Govinda Adhikari of the District Police Office, Kaski said Poudel confessed his crime to the police saying that he had murdered the foreigner . Dohlia was carrying passport No 451363487. She was thrown from KI Singh Bridge into the Seti River the same night she was murdered.

Police said Poudel had kept Dohlia for three days before killing her with a hammer while she was asleep. Police said the reason behind the murder has yet to be ascertained. He said investigation into the case was under way.

DSP Adhikari said they have yet to recover the body of the foreigner. The police have also recovered a blood- stained bed sheet and a pillow from her room.

Police said the arrested had tried to escape by jumping off the roof of the DPO building on Friday. He had received injuries and fractured his leg in the incident. He has been receiving treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara. His condition, however, is said to be critical.

No one knows Poudel’s motive behind the murder of the American National who had come here to help.
