NA election won't deter formation of government: Dahal
CHITWAN: The CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed that the National Assembly election will not deter formation of new government under the leftist alliance.
Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Centre Chitwan at the Bharatpur Airport on Friday, Dahal said the government formation process would move ahead only after the Election Commission submits its results of House of Representatives election.
"In general, National Assembly and House of Representatives are different. NA election won't affect the formation of the government," Dahal clarified.
"22 women would make it to the National Assembly which will be 37.5 per cent in this assembly and it is ensured. Even in House of Representatives all parties would make it 33 per cent through proportional representations, so there is no any hindrance in the formation of the new government," Dahal explained.
"Regarding the formation of the NA, earlier constitution had clearly mentioned the Single Transferable Voting system, however, this constitution has mentioned the NA but it has not clarified its formation procedure," Dahal stressed.
"As per international practice the National Assembly is formed in more inclusive proportional representation. In this regard, we will hold discussion within the leftist parties," Dahal shared.
Speaking on a different note, Dahal said that an agreement was forged between the UML and Maoist Centre in leading the government turn by turn.
"We have forged many consensus, there is no any obstacle. Conceptual agreement was forged for leading the government simultaneously. After the meeting of the party unification coordination committee meeting would finalise it," Dahal added.
Dahal remained positive despite five parties meeting failed inconclusively to pave the way for the formation of the National Assembly.
CPN Maoist Chairman also said there is no connection regarding five party meeting and Indian PM Modi's phone call, referring to latter's phone call to the top leaders yesterday.
Former PM Dahal clarified that Modi called him to congratulate him and wished for the formation of new government at the earliest.
