NA to upgrade road to Kerung border point

Kathmandu, December 3

The Cabinet meeting held in Singha Durbar today evening decided to hand over the responsibility of upgrading road access to Rasuwagadi-Kerung border point of Nepal and China making it a two-lane black-topped road within two years, to Nepali Army.

The NA will construct and black-top the road within two years through the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transportation (MoPIT) and Department of Roads, said Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai after the Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet instructed the Ministry of Finance and MoPIT to make arrangements for necessary budget, he said.

“As decided by the previous cabinet meeting to develop the Kerung border point as major and regular trade route, the government today decided to upgrade 82 kilometres of the Galchhi-Trishuli-Mailung-Saprubeshi-Rasuwagadi road section.” Minister Rai said.

The government will mobilise all other government agencies to support upgrading of the road and meet the target, he said.

The Cabinet instructed the Home Ministry to make arrangements to compensate those whose properties were damaged during the ongoing Madhes agitation and withdraw lawsuits against protesters on the basis of justification, according to the minister.
