Narayani rises, all sluice gates in Gandak Barrage opened

NAWALPARASI: All sluice gates in the Gandak Barrage were opened after the water level in Narayani River crossed the danger markĀ on Tuesday.

The gates were opened to allow release of water so that the risk in the Barrage and upstream region could be minimised.

Nawalparasi's Chief District Officer Mahadev Panta said the swollen Narayani River terrorised locals.

The water level in Narayani River at Devghat was recorded as high as 9.41 metres, according to CDO Panta. The water level above 8.4 metres in Narayani is regarded as alarming point.

Meanwhile, all concerned agencies in the district have been mobilised to maintain high alert in the area. People living close to the river been urged to move to safer places.

More than 13 VDCs including Kudiya, Pratapur, Guthi Prasauni among others in the southern belt of Nawalparais are at high risk of flooding.
