Ecosystem restoration

KATHMANDU: The International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN) today said that more than 997,000,000 hectares land around the world — equal to the area covered by Canada — is potential for ecosystem restoration. A study conducted by the Global Partnership on Forest Restoration identified these degraded forests as having potential to be restored. Ecosystem restoration is the process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged or destroyed. Preliminary analysis indicated that by 2030 the restoration of degraded forest lands will make the same contribution as by the reduction of greenhouse gases.
