Food poisoning

CHITWAN: At least 17 persons of seven families of the Chepang community in Kaule-7 are suffering from diarrhoea after they consumed buffalo meat to mark the Chaite Dashain festival. Talking over the telephone, local Surya Bahadur Chepang said the people started having bouts of diarrhoea since Monday night. The condition of most of the patients is critical as there is a superstition that one should not drink water while suffering from diarrhoea. According to Chepang, the villagers are relying on herbal medicines as the area has no health facilities. It takes three hours to reach a nearby health post from the area. The acting chief of the District Public Health Office said he is yet to get information on the diarrhoea cases.

Gautam’s no to one

Rautahat: CPN-UML leader and former home minister Bamdev Gautam today said the demand for a one-Madhes autonomous province being raised by Madhes-based parties is against the fundamentals of federalism. Speaking at a press conference in Gaur organised by Press Chautari Nepal, Rautahat, he said that his party was opposed to the one-Madhes autonomous province. He termed the demand a “cheap slogan” taken up by some Madhes-based parties against the essence of federalism. Stating that a federal structure was essential for the establishment of identity and dignity of the people of Himal, Pahad and the Tarai, Gautam said the demand for the one-Madhesh province will “trample upon” the rights of people belonging to other ethnic groups. He added that the demand will never materialise, however.
