Jeep kills two

DANG: Two persons were killed and two others were injured when a jeep slammed into a house of Purnima Bhandari at Dhodeni in Ghorahi Municipality. The jeep went out of control as it was driven by Bal Kumar Shrestha in the absence of the jeep driver. Purnima Bhandari, 48, and her 6-month-old granddaughter were killed in the accident. The injured are 31-year-old Gira Bahadur Bhandari and 10-year-old Pradeep Bhandari. Police have taken Bal Kumar Shrestha into custody. Seven persons who lost their consciousness after seeing the accident are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ghorahi.

CPN-M captures land

ITAHARI: Cadres of the CPN-Maoist on Sunday seized 52 katthas of land belonging to Ganesh Bahadur Shrestha of Khanar VDC-6 in Sunsari district by hoisting their party flag. The land was seized by All Nepal Squatters-Revolutionary aligned to the Matrika Prasad Yadav- led party. Raj Kumar Gurung, district coordinator of the party, informed that they seized the land as the land owner had been exploiting local Budhalal Chaudhari, who had been cultivating the land for years. Matrika’s men have demanded that Gurung be given one kattha of land in addition to Rs 1, 20,000 to victim Chaudhari as compensation ."
