Defaulters fined

Biratnagar: Department of Metrology and Quality Control, Biratnagar office, on Thursday fined and initiated action against 131 traders across the district, who were caught selling goods at exorbitant prices and doctoring the weight and measures. The office fined the unscrupulous businessmen Rs 5,544 and initiated action against them after they were found to be involved in irregularities. The office checked the weights and measures of a number of balances and electronic scales in Belbari, Pathari and other places in the district between January 8 and 15. The office also distributed licences to traders operating without them.

Poultry-eaters fall ill

Lamjung: Seven members of a family in Besishahar-3 of Lamjung district have fallen ill after consuming chicken items. The meat affected the health of Aite Bishwakarma and all other members of the family. The patients are undergoing treatment at a Community Hospital in the district headquarters, Besishar. One of the sick members is in a critical health condition. The family had bought the meat at a shop in Beshishahar, said Chijmaya.

Parasi shut for relief

Parasi: Locals called a Parasi Bazaar bandh demanding relief for the victims of a road accident that occurred last month. The bandh organisers demonstrated in front of District Police Office Nawalparasi for two hours from 8 am so as to press the administration to negotiate appropriate compensation for the victims. Four people travelling on a tractor were killed when a truck hit the vehicle on December 29.

Revenue target unmet

Kakarvitta: Mechi Customs Office has not been able to collect the targeted revenue so far. Against the target of Rs 756,842,000 in the first four months of the current fiscal year, the office has collected Rs 746,611,000 in revenue, said revenue officer Umesh Kumar Basnet. The collection is 1.35 per cent short of the target, he said, adding that the revenue collection went down due to decrease in excise duty collection.
