Eye-camp
MYAGDI: About 300 eye patients have benefitted from a free eye camp conducted at Myagdi district headquarters Beni. The one-day camp was organised by Lions Club of Myagdi and Himalaya Eye Hospital in Pokhara on Thursday. Some 38 visitors found to be suffering from cataract would be sent to Pokhara for free-of-cost surgery, said Uttam Karmacharya, vice-chairman of the Lions Club.
Culture preservation
KATHMANDU: Minister for Local Development Purna Kumar Sherma said that Jyapu culture, one of the oldest and unique cultures of the country, needed preservation. Inaugurating a dance competition organised by Dharma Chakra Tanani Lyamha Pucha on the occasion of Jyapu Day here on Saturday, he urged all the indigenous nationalities to come together for the preservation of their culture. Minister Sherma honoured eight local music teachers for their contribution. On the occasion, Constituent Assembly members Tirtha Ram Dangol and Dhyan Govind Ranjit spoke on various aspects of Jyapu culture and called for its preservation.
Action sought
Kathmandu: The Unified CPN-Maoist flayed the attack on its cadres by Youth Force activists in Dhading on Friday night. It demanded that the government take action against the culprits. The Youth Force is the youth wing of the ruling CPN-UML. Maoist spokesman Dinanath Sharma, in a press release on Saturday sought an immediate end to such activities and said the government would be responsible for any untoward situation if it failed to punish the assailants. The largest party in the CA said the YF cadres attacked Prakash Acharya, a teacher at Sarashwoti Primary School in Kebalpur-8 and Khum Bahadur Acharya (Sanu), who is the Maoist area committee member, with khukuri, severely injuring them. Prakash is undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu while the Sanu is recuperating at a local hospital. The party has demanded that the government bear the treatment cost for the injured.
