Six houses gutted

RAJBIRAJ: At least six houses were destroyed in a fire in Lalapatti on Saturday morning. The fire broke out from a house at 3 am, police said. According to the police, the fire destroyed four houses of Mohammad Yusuf Mansuri and two of Mohammad Israel Mansuri in Lalapatti VDC Ward No 7. The locals and the police doused the fire later.

Cold-induced death

ITAHARI: A cold wave sweeping through the area has claimed one Bhoti Khanal, 33, of Shantinagar, Itahari-2, according to the police. Khanal died in her sleep during the night. Police said an autopsy confirmed Khanal died of extreme cold. The death toll from the excessive cold in Sunsari, Saptari and Siraha districts has now exceeded 20, police added.

Attackers arrested

KHANDBARI: Police on Thursday detained three youths on charges of attacking a businessman from Sankhuwasabha’s Madimulkharka VDC. The trio had attacked Kedar Khadka, a resident of Mamling VDC, at a local bazaar earlier. The arrested youths are Dewa Jimi, Surya Jimi and Rabin Jimi of Madimulkharka VDC-1, according to Prakash Sharma, Police Inspector at the District Police Office Sankhuwasabha.
