Khair logs haul
BANKE: District Forest Office (DFO) Banke on Saturday morning took five truckloads of Khair (acacia catechu) logs under control while it was being ferried to Nepalgunj from Bardiya’s Jayakusumbha Community Forest. According to Madan Chaudhari, assistant officer, DFO, the police had taken the action on the basis of a tip-off. He said the matter was being looked into. DFO Bardiya had issued a permit to Bishnu Wood Suppliers Gulariya for the transport of 2040 cubic feet of wood. The wood was being ferried to Ganapati Kattha Factory located at Khajura of Banke. Chaudhari said both the wood and the permit were being studied. “We will release the said volume of wood,” he added. Biswanath Mahato, officer, DFO Bardiya, claimed that the wood was not being illegally ferried. ‘’We released the wood after checking,” he clarified.
Book on media ethics
KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel on Saturday unveiled a book titled ‘MBM Anthology of Media Ethics’. The book, edited by journalism teacher Bhuwan KC, contains four research articles on various aspects of media ethics in South Asia.
P Kharel, professor, Department of Journalism, Tirbhuvan University, said the code of ethics in journalism had been shadowed in Nepal. “The book is relevant and will prove to be a guideline for journalistic pursuits,” he opined. Meanwhile, Minister Pokharel and Ramji Dahal, secretary, Federation of Nepali Journalists, condemned the Unified CPN-Maoist for assaulting journalists repeatedly.
