Wild tuskers kill two

JANAKPUR: A herd of wild elephants attacked and killed two persons in Dhanusha’s Bateshwor VDC on Monday night. The deceased are Jagedevi Mahato, 70, and Punam Kumari Mahato, 13, both of Ward 6 of the VDC. After the incident, Dhanusha CDO Bed Bahadur Karki, chief of District Forest Office Hiralal Kushawaha and other security officials went to the village to console the bereaved family. UML lawmaker from Dhanusha-7 Satrughna Mahato, who was also in the team, handed over Rs 5, 000 to each of the victim families. Six persons have been killed by the wild tuskers in the district within the past two weeks’ period.

2 Nepalis killed in UAE

Lamjung: Two Nepalis, who had reached the United Arab Emirates for employment, were brutally murdered in the gulf country last week. Shiva Babu Basnet of Chiti VDC-1 in Lamjung and Resham Kunwar of Syangja district were killed last Tuesday in separate incidents. According to Bhim Gurung, Basnet was hacked to death in his room and Kunwar on the premises of a court by an Egyptian national on Tuesday night.

Minor beaten to death

RAJBIRAJ: Seven-year-old Annu Kumari, daughter of Binda Sada of Bakadhuwa VDC-5 in Sapatri, died of physical assault on Tuesday. According to police, Saraswati Yadav and her 13-year-old son Saroj had beaten the child to death. Annu was thrashed after her goats grazed on the crop of the Yadavs. Local residents said the Yadavs had warned Annu not to take her goats to their field.
