NBA moves SC for detainees’ release

Kathmandu:

Separate habeas corpus petitions were filed today at the Supreme Court, seeking the release of 62 detained political leaders and party activists.

The petitions were filed by the Nepal Bar Association and the family members of former minister Raghuji Pant, Pashupati Chaulagain, Lal Bahadur Tamang, Gopal Shakya, Dev Raj Ghimire, Purna Prasad Gautam and political activists Dan Bahadur Dangol, Santosh Timalsena, Arun Nepal, Daya Ram Khadka, Bhim Raj Angdambe and Kamal Itani.

Terming the detention illegal, the petitioners sought the apex court’s order to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the police headquarters to free the detainees.
