NC convention may be delayed

Kathmandu, January 8:

Some Nepali Congress leaders have expressed scepticism over timely conduction of the party’s general convention although president Girija Prasad Koirala has been claiming to hold it as scheduled. The NC had announced that its convention would be held in the first week of February. The delay, however, seems inevitable, as finalising the list of active members is being delayed. As per the schedule, the party was to approve the names of its active members by December 30. However, the names are yet to be finalised although forms for active membership were submitted to the central office about a month ago.

Some senior leaders have expressed serious concern over the delay in the entire process. Party sources have also attributed the delay to possible return of a section of the NC (D) rank and file to the NC. “This may be a reason behind the delay in membership renewal,” a leader said. Meanwhile, a team led by Ram Chandra Poudel is holding a series of meetings to finalise the policy and programmes of the party. The panel will meet tomorrow.
