NC CWC meet sought to discuss unity with NC (D)

Kathmandu, July 8:

The Nepali Congress (NC) leadership has been told to convene a formal meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) to discuss issues concerning unification of the party with the NC (D).

The call came following an important meeting between NC President and Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and NC (D) President Sher Bahadur Deuba yesterday on the agenda of unification, amid claims that unification is “very much imminent”.

“We had sat down to review the latest political scenario in an informal manner. But it was cut short following reports of former Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar passing away,” said NC CWC member Laxman Ghimire.

He added that demands have been made for convening the CWC meeting in a formal manner so as to discuss issues related to unification “threadbare.” Prime Minister Koirala and NC President Deuba who had met yesterday had agreed on early unification but encountered some “intractable problem” which is being attended to by the task force.

The meeting ended after central leaders, who had travelled to their districts to assess the law and order situation, presented their report, which cut a scary picture.
