NC (D) lauds agreement

Kathmandu, November 23:

The Nepali Congress (Democratic) has welcomed the historic Comprehensive National Peace Treaty calling it a major development in Nepal’s history.

The central working committee of the party held today at the party office, Maharajgunj, the party has asked all concerned to fully abide by the agreement. “We urge all the concerned parties, including the government and the Maoists, to focus on total implementation of the agreement,” party general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi told reporters after the meeting.

The party is also expected to hold meeting “soon” to discuss party’s future course. It should be noted that the four-day conference of the district presidents of the party that ended on November 17 had pressed the party leadership to make clear its political vision and effective organisational capacity to go to elections to the constituent assembly.

The district presidents, in their 20-point resolution, had also asked the party leadership to face elections to constituent assembly with the policy of multi-party parliamentary system towards establishing a federal democratic republican state.

The resolution has asked the party leadership not to accept any form of monarchy.
