NC gen secy warns against taking hasty decisions

Kathmandu, January 5:

Nepali Congress general secretary Kul Bahadur Gurung today cautioned that any job, including elections to constituent assembly, if done in haste, could be unfortunate.

Citing “noticeable errors” in the interim constitution, which he said occurred due to haste, Gurung advised political parties to exercise extreme cautioun while accomplishing significant tasks in future.

He said since majority of people were still ignorant about constituent assembly elections and they should be made aware about the process to ensure positive results.

Gurung was speaking at an interaction organised by Society for Democratic Thinking today.

NC central working committee member Laxman Prasad Ghimire said elections to constituent assembly would be impossible if not held by June.

Ghimire, however, said since the ball was in the Maoists’ court it all depends upon them for the timely elections to CA.

“They (Maoists) must ensure that all VDC secretaries can perform their tasks without any obstacle and the police posts are re-established,” he added.

CPN-UML standing committee member, Jhalanath Khanal warned that all the eight parties would lose credibility if they failed to hold CA elections in June.

“It is high time we focused on holding CA polls now,” Khanal said urging the NC to decide in favour of a republican set-up and give up its stance on monarchy.
