NC stance on monarchy will be historic: Sitaula

Jhapa, January 13 :

Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said Nepal will enter a new era on the day the Nepali Congress (NC) comes out with its policy on the monarchy.

Speaking at an interaction on the Necessity of Constituent Assembly for New Nepal, organised by the NC Area Committee No 3 in Bhadrapur today, Sitaula said: “Since the NC is the party that accepts the supremacy of the people and has been struggling against the monarchy since 2007 BS, anyone can guess the views and policy of the NC on monarchy.”

“Nepal will enter a new era the day the NC decides the policy on monarchy,” Sitaula said. “As the NC has been leading all kinds of movements since 2007 BS, the party should assume leadership to hold the elections to a constituent assembly (CA).”

Sitaula directed party cadres to play active and alert role in distribution of citizenship certificates and help update voters’ list. “Since Santhal, Majhi, Danuwar and Jhagad communities are the indigenous communities of Jhapa, they should not be deprived of citizenship certificates.”

Meanwhile, chairperson of the Majhi Welfare Committee, Jogendra Bahadur Majhi, submitted a 11-point memorandum to Sitaula today.

Among other things, the memorandum has demanded conservation of culture and tradition of the Majhi people and free education for the Majhi children.

The Nepali Bangali Society also submitted a memorandum to Sitaula.
