NCP is authoritarian, says Paudel

Sunsari, November 20

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel today accused the government of taking the path of totalitarianism.

Addressing an election gathering organised by his party in Dharan’s Bhanu Chowk today, the NC leader accused the two-thirds majority government of introducing different bills and laws that suit its interest one after another  bypassing the constitution.

“The party and its leaders were the same persons who never tired of chanting slogans in support of democracy and constitution in the past, but look what they are up to now. They are heading towards becoming totalitarian leaders by acting against democratic norms and the constitution,” Poudel argued.

“Vote for the communist party if you want to let the government to be totalitarian and authoritarian. Otherwise, vote for our candidates and elect them, as it will serve as a warning to the wayward government and the ruling party,” Poudel told voters.

NC central member Shekhar Koirala also spoke on the occasion and reminded about his party’s role in bringing Dharan’s glory — BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences — to its present form.

“I only urge you voters to consider the Congress’s role in reviving an almost dead city. That’s all. And also remember the role played by Sujata Koirala in the development here,” he said.

Various NC leaders have come to Dharan in view of the upcoming by-election that will elect the mayor of the sub-metropolis and chairperson of  Ward No 7.
