Nearly 50 percent of reconstruction completed in Makawanpur

HETAUDA: Nearly 50 percent of personal residences damaged by the mega earthquake of 2015 in Makawanpur district have been reconstructed.

According to Chief at the District Programme Implementation Unit of the National Reconstruction Authority, Somraj Timalsina, grant agreement was signed with 27,352 earthquake affected beneficiaries, out of which 13,422 (49.07%) have received the third instalment of reconstruction expenses by mid-March.

Timalsina further added that 20,309 (nearly 75 percent) of the beneficiaries have initiated the work of reconstruction.

The District Facilitation Committee of NRA meets every month, and the Committee has been facilitating the process of reconstruction by solving problems that arise in the process by coordinating with local levels, which has supported the pace of reconstruction in Makawanpur as compared to other districts, said Tilmalsina.

It has been learnt that reconstruction has gained speed in the district in line with NRA's target of completing the construction of personal residences in the district within the current fiscal year.

Meanwhile, NRA has made public that it would work in the reconstruction of educational institutions, health institutions, buildings of government and security entities, cultural heritages, temples and monasteries within the next two years.
