NEFIN team meets Khanal, Prachanda
Kathmandu, May 20:
Maoist chairman Prachanda said his party was for providing space to every section of the society in the Constituent Assembly.
“For this we are ready to devise special provisions in the CA,” he was quoted as saying during a meeting with the delegation of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN).
The NEFIN delegation was led by its general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa.
Prachanda said there were lots of groups who were demanding representation in the CA and his party would work out a provision to let them have their say in the CA.
“The constitution should be made through consensus and not by voting. So all the left out groups would be given space to have their say,” Thapa quoted Prachanda as saying.
Thapa further said Prachanda has assured the delegation that his statement does not mean that the janajatis would have less representation in the 26 CA seats.
The delegation also handed over a memorandum to him demanding representation of all 26 left-out indigenous groups in the CA.
Representatives of the indigenous groups which could not make it to the CA were also present in the meeting.
The delegation also met CPN-UML general secretary Jhalanath Khanal at the party’s office in Balkhu and handed over a copy of the memorandum.
