Nembang harps on unity

Phidim, January 21:

Constituent Assembly chairman Subas Chandra Nembang today urged all to unite for constitution writing.

Inaugurating Sumhatlung FM here today, Nembang said it would be impossible to write a new constitution within the stipulated time without uniting people living in mountains, hills and the Tarai.

“The CA should be developed as a place to forge consensus and foster cooperation,” he said, adding, “Lack of unity cannot take us to our goals.”

He also urged all to send their suggestions and views to the CA to make a people-friendly constitution.

“The constitution can be written within the stipulated time only if the CA receives support from all,” Nembang said, adding: “We should bury rivalries and foster consensus among all parties.”

Lauding the role of mass media during the Jana Andolan II, the CA chairman urged the mass media to raise the voices of indigenous and marginalised groups.

On the occasion, Panchthar district chapters of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Nepal Press Union, Press Chautari Nepal and Revolutionary Journalists’ Organisation submitted a joint memorandum to Nembang, urging him to take initiatives to stop the increasing highhandedness of several groups against the media.

In the memorandum, the journalists have demanded the government to guarantee their security and profession, implement working journalists’ act and stop attacks on the free press.
