NA squad defuses IED in Morang

BIRATNAGAR: A squad of bomb disposal unit of the Nepal Army (NA) defused improvised explosive device (IED) along the East-West Highway in Sundarharaincha Municipality-3 of Morang district today morning.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ghanashyam Shrestha at Morang District Police Office (DPO), locals who came across a suspicious package placed by the edge of the road in Sundardulari area informed police of the package, at around 5:30 am today.

Subsequently, the squad deployed from NA's Suryadal Battalion based in the district reached the site and defused the IED, at around 9:00 am, the DSP said.

No casualties have been reported in the district.

The security agencies in the district have stayed alert today as Netra Bikram Chand (Biplav)-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has called for Nepal Bandh.

It has also been reported that the district has partly been affected as long route vehicles have not been found plying the highway while the thinner volume of commuter traffic has been witnessed.
