Nepal buys land, buildings for Embassy in Thailand

KATHMANDU: Nepal has bought land and buildings worth Rs 450 million (Thai Baht 150 million) in Bangkok for the Nepali mission in Thailand, the Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok said.

The new property sprawls in three ropani and 12 aana land at 27, Soi 71, Sukhumvit Road in the Thai capital. The Nepali mission is currently located at 189, Soi 71, Sukhumvit.

According to the Embassy, there are three buildings in the compound that Nepal formally acquired today.

The Nepali mission plans to set up the Ambassador's office, visa office and quarters for the employees in each of the buildings.

The Embassy plans to move to the new address as soon as maintenance is finished.

The property was brought as per the government’s policy of gradually acquiring its own property for Nepali embassies and other diplomatic facilities abroad.

The Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok has so far been renting building since its opening in the early 1970s.
