Nepal Covid-19 Update: 1497 new cases, 457 recoveries, 17 deaths on Thursday

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Health Ministry, in its regular press briefing, shared the latest updates on coronavirus contagion from across the country, and the government’s response to the health crisis.

As of today, 955,923 tests through Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method have been carried wherein 11,449 tests were carried out in the last 24 hours.

At present, there are 6565 people under quarantine in various facilities across the country. The number of active cases Nepal, currently, is 17,414.

1,497 new cases of the coronavirus infection were registered today taking the national tally to 69,301.

As many as 457 persons earlier diagnosed with the disease, admitted in various healthcare facilities have been discharged following recovery in the last 24 hours. With the recent addition, the national COVID-19 recovery tally has now reached 50,411.

On Wednesday, seventeen more persons succumbed to the coronavirus infection. With this, Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll has advanced to 453.

Ministry Spokesperson Dr Jageshwor Gautam shared that the greater rate of infection has been noticed in Kathmandu Valley after the prohibitory order is relaxed. More than half of the total cases are being observed in the valley itself. As social distancing measures are difficult to maintain in overpopulated areas like Kathmandu, he suggests us not to become reckless and think that there is a chance of spreading the disease even without symptoms.

In the other hand, he also shared the fact about more people travelling to India and since India is one of the countries with the highest infection, it is requested to be responsible for one's action.

As of today, the country has witnessed 69,301 cases of the coronavirus infection while 50,411 people have been discharged from hospitals. Meanwhile, 453 COVID-19 fatalities have been confirmed.
