Election Code of Conduct within a week: Chief Commissioner
KATHMANDU: A day after the government fixed the date for elections in local bodies, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said that the Election Code of Conduct would come into effect within a week.
The government would not be allowed to make any decision on promotion, transfer or new appointment after the Election Commission of Nepal issues the Election Code of Conduct.
There would be zero tolerance against those violating the Election of Code of Conduct, Yadav maintained, and committed to holding the May 14 elections in free and fair manner.
He was speaking at an interaction with media in Kathmandu this afternoon.
According to him, 82 days were enough for the preparations and none should have any doubt whether the elections could be conducted on May 14.
“The election date has been announced, required laws and acts have been enacted. That is why elections will be happen,” he said.
Saying the government has ensured the Election Commission of providing required material and human resources, Yadav expressed his belief that the government would not shy away from elections now.
