NEA Rajbiraj centre starts collecting arrears

Rajbiraj, May 14

Nepal Electricity Authority, Rajbiraj Distribution Centre in Saptari has managed to collect arrears related to tariff from more than 500 clients this fiscal.

In the wake of the increasing trend among its clientele to not clear their bills in time, the NEA decided to crack its whip and disconnected power lines.

“Of the total arrears to the tune of Rs 36.9 million, we’ve been able to collect 10.4 million rupees from 529 defaulters,” said office Chief Ram Udgar Sah, adding that most of the defaulters owe over Rs 3 million.

According to Sah, power leakage in the district has come down this year. “From the past 60 per cent, we’ve reduced the leakage to 53 per cent given our concerted efforts,” he said.

According to data with the office, the office took action against 400 power pilferers this fiscal alone and collected 5.4 million rupees in fines. Besides, 58 other persons faced action for cheating the office by tampering with their meters.
