Nepal for fixing election date between April 6-9

Biratnagar, December 24:

General Secretary of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal today said new faces of Maoists will join the government very soon.

Talking to journalists at Biratnagar airport, Nepal said: “New faces of Maoists will join the government once the Prime Minister approves the resignation of previous Maoist ministers.”

Nepal said UML will not change its ministers representing the party in the government.

He said a new date for CA polls should be fixed in between April 6 and April 9, 2008. He said the first meeting of a mechanism of senior leaders of the seven parties will clear all confusions regarding the polls. He said the polls will be held at any cost and asked all not to raise any doubt over the polls.

Calling all agitating Tarai groups for talks, Nepal said the agreement reached with Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum would be implemented after the polls.

Speaking in Rajbiraj, Nepal said that the burning problems in Tarai must be addressed through talks and the parties concerned need to be flexible.

Addressing a programme held in Rajbiraj today, he said: “There is nothing that cannot be settled through talks. Weapons can never bring peace.”

Nepal, however, said that the main cause of mushrooming of various armed groups is the Maoists. “As Prachanda had taught them to raise their weapons, they have been following him,” he said. He said the armed groups must come into the political mainstream by dumping weapons.

Nepal said that the political deadlock has been settled after the agreements in the seven-party alliance on Sunday night. “There is no need for foreigners to make a new constitution,” Nepal, who is also a member of constitution drafting committee of 2047 BS, said. “Nepalis are able to draft their constitution,” he said, adding: “We should use our own brain to draft our constitution, though we listen to the foreigners.”
