Nepal Police-APF row

JHAPA: After Armed Police Force ASI Dipak Shrestha manhandled Nepal police head constable Gagan Chaudhary at Mechi Customs Office Kakadbhitta seven days ago, the row between the two security forces has turned ugly. Following the incident, Police Chief SP Rabindranath Regmi said that beating of an innocent staffer could not be a minor incident. APF SP Premraj Pokhrel, however, responded that Nepal Police had made a mountain out of a molehill. SP Regmi charged that APF had tried to discourage Nepal Police’s effort to control illegal activities at the border. “Attacks are being carried out in a series. So far, three Nepal Police personnel have been thrashed by the APF, which speaks about APF’s bad intentions,” Regmi added. A probe team formed under the coordination of Assistant CDO Kamal Thapa has submitted its report, which recommends action against APF ASI Shrestha for acting against the police code.

Girl trafficking up

JHAPA: Girl trafficking via different borer points has been increasing in the East. Data at Kakadbhitta-based Maiti Nepal showed that the trend of girl trafficking across the border to India was increasing by the day. Maiti Nepal’s eastern regional Coordinator Govind Ghimire said that as many as 36 girls were rescued from January to June this year. Within the same period last year, 31 trafficked girls were rescued from India. Ghimire asked the government to increase vigilance at many border points to prevent trafficking.
