KATHMANDU, APRIL 15

A group of climbers today scaled the world's tenth-highest peak making the season's first successful summit of the peak above 8000m.

According to Thaneswar Guragain, General Manager at Seven Summit Treks, rope-fixing team members including Pasang Nuru Sherpa and Mingma Tenzi Sherpa stood atop Mt Annapurna at around 10:35 am.

Along with high altitude Sherpas, at least 54 climbers including 16 women representing five teams have already reached the high camps of Mt Annapurna in an attempt to scale the 8091-metre peak in the spring season, Chhang Dawa Sherpa, SST's Expedition Director, said from the base camp.

Climbers from SST, Imagine Nepal Treks and Elite Expeditions also reached the summit point as Sherpa climbers opened the climbing route, Sherpa said.

According to Mingma G, at least 5 clients and 7 Sherpa from Imagine Nepal reached the summit of Mount Annapurna at 11:15 am.

"Kili Pemba Sherpa, Tamting Sherpa, Phur Galjen Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Tshering Samduk Sherpa, Suman Gurung, Ngima Nuru Sherpa, Wang Zhong-China, Naoki Ishikawa-Japan, Sashko Kedev-Macedonia, Maria Alexandra Danila-Romania and Nadia Lisa Khoso-England reached the summit point," he said adding that Jill Wheatley from Canada and Pemba Chiri Sherpa were also climbing through the couloir towards the summit.

According to Guragai, Pakistani climber Sajid Ali Sadpara and the Seven Summit Treks team also successfully reached the summit of Annapurna. Sajid Ali Sadpara, a Pakistani mountaineer, is renowned for his feats in high-altitude mountaineering. He is the son of the late Ali Sadpara, who was also a renowned mountaineer with several successful ascents of peaks above 8,000 meters.

"Sajid scaled Annapurna without using supplemental oxygen," Guragai said.
