Tiwari warns of fresh agitation
Rajbiraj, February 2
Nepal Sadbhawana Party-Gajendrabadi Chairperson Bikas Kumar Tiwari has warned of fresh agitation over not implementing the agreement struck with the concerned ministry to improve services at Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital.
The NSP leader voiced his warning at a press conference on the hospital premises in Rajbiraj today.
Earlier, Tiwari had staged a fast-unto-death on the hospital premises from November 23 to December 10 putting forward a number of demands, including improvement of services at the hospital.
He had ended his strike in the presence of Health Minister Gagan Kumar Thapa on December 10, following a four-point agreement.
Among other things, the agreement had it that construction of the parturition home that had started long ago and then halted would resume within a fortnight, vacant posts of doctors would be filled and necessary machines would be procured. Similarly, the agreement had pledged to form a probe committee to investigate irregularities at the hospital.
“But as nothing has happened in these two months after the agreement was struck and I ended the strike, it seems I’ll have to take to agitation again,” said Tiwari, who gave a deadline of February 11 for the government to ensure that the agreement was followed.
“Instead of appointing more doctors, three doctors have been transferred from here, which has led to a real problem now,” he said.
It is important to note that the hospital has just two doctors serving now, namely cardio and diabetic specialist Dr Ranjit Jha and gynaecologist Dr Usha Dev against a total posts of 22 doctors here.
