Devastating landslides hit Taplejung villages, death toll jumps to 47

After police recovered 11 more bodies this afternoon, the death toll from the Taplejung landslides climbed to 47.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of those who have lost their loved ones in the recent Taplejung landslides.

He also wished for speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.

PM koirala said that he has already directed concerned authorities to carry out rescue and relief works at the incident sites.

Update II: As police recovered six more bodies, the number of people who lost their lives in the landslides in Taplejung district has reached 36 till 2 pm.

The landslides hit different villages in the eastern hilly district after an incessant rainfall for past three days, and caused the casualties besides sweeping away houses and land in several VDCs on Wednesday night.

Similarly, eight-year-old Chameli Limbu, daughter of Ita Bahadur Lumbu of Lingtep was also killed in the landslides.

According to DSP Koirala, Amabar Limbu of Santha among two and Mana Maya Limbu of Lingtep-3 are also found dead.

As many as 14 persons of Liwang-1 are missing in the landslides, he informed.

Though police personnel from various police stations of the district are said to be dispatched in the incident sites, none of them have reached there.

It has been learnt that the rescue operation in the district has been affected due to difficult geography.
