Nepal Women Association convention to begin on Sept 14

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Women Association, a sister organisation of Nepali Congress, on Wednesday, announced to hold its third national general convention from September 14 in the Capital.

Organising a press conference here today, the organisation said that the three-day congress would be held at Bhrikutimandap with the theme "Four way-outs for women empowerment: equal participation, peace, prosperity and constitutional development."

The convention would elect its new leadership.

Speaking at the press conference, President of the organisation, Dila Sangraula said that rights and provisions mentioned in the new Constitution were very narrow.

"The government should at least manage 35 per cent women participation at the centre, 40 per cent at the province and 50 per cent participation at the local level," added Sangraula.

"We will raise this issue in the upcoming convention," she further added.

The convention would be inaugurated by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

The preparation for the convention is going on in full swing, said Nirmala Chhetri, Cental Committee member of the organisation.

Earlier, on Monday, the mother party, Nepali Congress had formed a five-member NWA General Convention Directive Committee to ensure the jamboree on time.
